The Cancer has Cancer Foundation was founded by Heather Rodriguez who was diagnosed with stage Advanced Ovarian Cancer, in September of 2010 at the age of 28. She has since gone through surgery and aggressive three types of chemotherapy treatments. Since then she has founded this wonderful organization to raise awareness for all types of cancers and educate and promote well-being with healthy life styles events such as our walk and run. We feel one day in the near future progress will be found in research for a cure to cancer. We feel cancer is cancer, regardless what part of the body it is found in.
This June 1, 2013 the board of directors and long time volunteers re-unite to present this years 1k walk and 5k/10k time run to be held at Bachman Lake Trail- 7:30am-12:00pm. The success of this event is credited largely to our sponsors, who lend their names and financial support to the event. The money we raise this year goes to The Cancer has Cancer Foundation, a 501 (c) 3 non-profit organization, "The Cancer Has Cancer Foundation". This foundation will ensure the event is held year after year to support other people in similar situations when there is a cancer diagnosis.
We're counting on your support and coverage, and will be happy to answer any questions you may have. Thank you in advance for your willingness to support the efforts of CURE for One, CURE for All event and make a difference in our community.
PRESS RELEASE: Cancer has Cancer new program-PINCHE CANCER
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: Dallas, Texas, March 19, 2013
The Cancer has Cancer Foundation is on a crusade to raise cancer awareness about all types of cancers. We feel there is great need in the Hispanic community to educate people and raise cancer awareness. We hope this will lead to an increase in early detection, which has been proven to increase the survival rate for all types of cancers.
Our mission is to raise awareness and promote education about all types of cancer, to provide emotional, financial and spiritual support, resources, a place to connect and share with others, and to raise funds that specifically go to molecular cancer research, which is exploring new cancer innovations.
Our goal is not only raise awareness and to educate the Hispanic community, but also to effectively support those who are diagnosed with and affected by cancer. Promoting cancer prevention steps and how to obtain information about cancer is becoming even more critical because the Hispanic community is the fastest growing minority group in the U.S. By 2050, approximately 30% of all Americans will be Hispanic, which means that more and more new cancer patients will be Hispanic."
Overall, about 1 in 2 Hispanic men and 1 in 3 Hispanic women will be diagnosed with cancer in their lifetime. The lifetime probability of dying from cancer is 1 in 5 for Hispanic men and 1 in 6 for Hispanic women. Cancer is the leading cause of death among Hispanics, accounting for 21% of deaths overall and 15% of deaths in children 1 in 3 Hispanics will be diagnosed with cancer at some point in their lifetime. According the Hispanic Cancer Statistics released in September of 2012, "Hispanics have lower cancer screening rates; are diagnosed with cancer at later stages."
We want to change that by educating the general population in the Latino community and by joining forces with Hispanic leadership to make an impact.
One way we plan to reach the Hispanic community is by organizing Pinche Cancer Soccer tournaments in the areas of the country that are heavily populated with Hispanics. By promoting such events that encourage healthy life styles and cancer awareness, prevention and education, we want to change the fact that cancer is the leading cause of death in the Hispanic community.
We are actively seeking national sponsors to help us reach our mission. Our first official Pinche Cancer Soccer Tournament will be held in Dallas, TX on the weekend of Cinco de Mayo.
We're counting on your support and coverage and will be happy to answer any questions you may have. Thank you in advance for your willingness to support the efforts of "Pinche Cancer" and for making a difference in the Hispanic community. We're willing to work with any person or organization that has the overall well-being of the Hispanic community in mind. Please visit www.pinchecancer.org for updates.
